I dream (poem) - Elaine Grech

The light in my eyes
is dancing with the sunshine glimmering on the tree's leaves...
forging a passage through time.
As my bare feet reach deeper into the soil...
I visualise...
A portal to my ancestors...through the roots of the tree...
I find myself sitting around the fire,
its flickering light shimmering in the moonlight.
The aroma of sage and rosemary is filling my nostrils...
while the beat of the frame drum is vibrating in my body...
I am chanting sounds that my cells recognise...
a language once chanted...
revived through this journey.
I dream of a world where tribes come together,
where our diverse fertilised roots reach out and connect...
I dream of landscapes exhaling solace, holding the healing of the wounded,
I dream of a world where hands are extended in compassion...
and feet walk towards each other to stand up and sustain.
I dream of a world where our voices are raised to protect the vulnerable
and words are expressed to honour each other's strengths.
I dream of communities made up of daily acts of kindness...
little differences...building blocks of healing communities.
I dream of eyes whose light showers you with kindness…
a voice that soothes your tired ears…
arms that hold each other…
feet that dance…
and hearts that beat together to the rhythm of connection.
